TASK 1

When was Unilever founded and who by?

Unilever was created on 1 January 1930 by the mergering of two companies called Lever Brothers Ltd and the Margarine Union. The merger agreement had been signed on 2 September 1929. (Anon., n.d.)

What are the core values of the company? (this should be based on your own opinions and research)

According to their website, Unilever has four main values. They are:

·         Integrity

·         Respect

·         Responsibility

·         Pioneering

They do this through creating different codes and practices for the company to follow, such as safeguarding and setting specific standards. They have many smaller values other than their main 4, they explain their ambitions to have a positive impact, work with good supplies, distributers and raise the bar on issues such as human rights, anti-bribery and corruption. Their focus is on making Unilever stronger in the best way possible. This protects their people, their assets, reputation and relationship with stakeholders. It also supports the conditions to work collaboratively, grow sustainably and deliver their Unilever Strategy. (Unilever, 2022)

They also have 5 different purpose, values and principles. These are:

Always working with integrity – Which is making sure that they conduct their operations with respect, and has the environment, organisations and people at heart.

Positive Impact – They aim to make a positive impact through their brands, commercial operations and relationships through volunteering and various other engaging activities.

Continuous Commitment – They’re committed to continuously improving the way they impact the environment and have a long-term goal of developing a sustainable business.

Setting out our aspirations – Their corporate purpose sets out their aspirations of the running of their business. It describes the operational standard that everyone at Unilever follows. It also supports their approach to governance and corporate responsibility.

Working with others – They want to work with supplies who have similar values and standards to them. Their Supplier Code is aligned to their Code of Business Principles, which contains eleven principles that cover business integrity and responsibilities relating to employees, consumers and the environment. (Unilever, 2022)

How many brands do Unilever hold?

Unilever hold 400 brands across the world, ranging from food to washing detergent. Some brands under the ownership of Unilever can be found here, many are not shown on their website as they are smaller, family-owned brand that get support from Unilever, or Unilever have shares in, compared to those shown on the website which are big companies owned by Unilever.

List some of the main sectors those brands belong to.

Out of the 45 brands shown on their website, 46% are related to food and drink (21 brands). This is the main sector Unilever has brands in. To narrow this sector even more, 7 of those in the food and drink sector are ice creams, which is just over 33%. Their other main sector is in toiletries, this includes perfume, skincare and shampoo. There are 14 brands in this section. This is their second main sector. Their other main sector Unilever has brands in is washing detergent. (Anon., 2022)

OUR MEDIA PRODUCT - PEAR PRESSURE

OUR MEDIA PRODUCT - PEAR PRESSURE Our media product is a short film created for an international competition called DEPICT. DEPICT challenges low-budget filmmakers to create a 90 second ultra-short masterpiece and focuses on “ uncovering emerging international filmmaking talent, which shows originality, imagination and the ability to engage in just a minute and a half .” (DEPICT - About, 2021) . Shortlisted filmmakers are rewarded with cash prizes, masterclasses from experts in the field and exposure to industry professionals. On the website (Oscars, 2021) , a short film is defined as “ as an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits ” (Oscars, 2021) meaning that our 90 second video correctly fits the description of a short film. We were put into small groups of three and brainstormed any ideas that we had through mind mapping and recording our initial thoughts, while simultaneously keeping in mind that we only had 90 seconds...

Research Portfolio

Primary Research Primary research is used to collect data directly, rather than depending on data collected from research that has previously been done. Some examples of primary research include: ·          Questionnaires, ·          Surveys, ·          Audience panels, ·          Self-generated e.g., own video, audio or photographic records of events, This is an example of a questionnaire. Questionnaires allow you to find out information, such as facts, attitudes and opinions. They are a simple way to gather short responses and are easily kept anonymous. However, it can be difficult to gain in depth responses as they are not as flexible as interviews. This was for my screenplay project. A questionnaire was very helpful when looking at primary research, as it gave me an in-depth idea of what people liked about m...
